Collaborative relationships with: Team Leader, Residential Support Workers, Domestic

Job Purpose: responsible for supporting the home manager with the day to day running of the care home with overall responsibility of the home and meeting its statement of purpose in the absence of a manager. To work with the Home Manager to regularly monitor all areas of the home to ensure at all times the highest achievable standards of care are delivered to the service users whilst working within the defined company policies and procedures. Ensure all care practices are evidence based and reflect current trends.

Key Responsibilities:

• To support service users with day to day living requirements

• To manage the home in the absence of the Home Manager.

• To assist in the assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation of the care of service users and ensuring that records are maintained in accordance with Msaada Groups guideline standards for record and record keeping.

• Work collaboratively as a Primary/Key worker within the multi disciplinary team, including liaising with associated professionals and other agencies.

• Ensure effective communication with services users, relatives, visitors and staff

• Make effective use of evidence based practice in a day to day clinical practice.

• Ensure safe standards apply to the administration of medication

• Ensure adherence to polices and procedures at all times.

• Assist with the development and/or revision of policies and procedures as necessary

• Supervise and monitor the use of supplies and equipment ensuring supplies are adequate and used appropriately.

• Assist in the maintenance of financial records as necessary

• To be an effective role model to all staff within the working environment, be a mentor of other staff.

• Maintain a learning environment

• To participate in the orientation/induction of new staff

• To participate in the quality assurance strategy

• To participate in the teaching within the unit and externally when required

• To participate in the planning, assessment, implementation and evaluation of care as set out in the care plan.

• To ensure continuity of service users care by committing and liaising with medical and nursing colleagues, providing accurate and timely reports of any changes in the condition of the resident.

• Maintaining accurate records in order to reduce the risk of errors.

• To assist the manager in monitoring the quality of the service offered and contribute to the development of quality measures and the achievement of performance indicators

• To motivate all staff within the home

• To regularly audit all care documentation to ensure it meets the resident needs

• To assist the Home Manager with the selection of staff for employment within the home.

• To continuously seek out ways of developing the service provided to the clients

• To maintain excellent lines of communication with all outside agencies, including care purchasers.

• Manage resources effectively ad efficiently

• To manage staff by ensuring completion and adherence to staffing rotas

• To monitor and audit all standards

• To work with the Home Manager to ensure all training is up to date and ongoing for all staff members

• To promote high standards of record keeping

• To ensure that all staff are aware of the importance of maintaining confidentiality with regards to clients and their records

• To advise and support all staff

• To be responsible for client safety within the unit ensuring risk assessment are completed as required and evaluated regularly

• To monitor dietary intake for all residents and to liaise with the kitchen to ensure residents needs are met.

• To support the Home Manager in all areas of management within the home as required, including being ‘on-call’ for the home at weekends on a rata basis.

To act with due care for the health and safety of herself/himself, other employees residents and general public, and cooperate within management in ensuring that the provision of the health and safety at work act are fully observed.
